Multicultural organisations in Tiwi Islands, Northern Territory, Australia
The Tiwi Islands are located 80 km north of Darwin in the Northern Territory, Australia. The islands, Bathurst and Melville, have a population of approximately 2,500 people, with nearly 90% being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent. The islands are renowned for their art, culture and pristine natural environment. With a significant multicultural community, there are several organisations that serve the diverse population. Below is a list of some of the multicultural organisations and their activities.
1. Tiwi Islands Training and Employment Board (TITEB)
The TITEB is a not-for-profit organisation that provides training and employment services to the Tiwi people. They offer qualifications in retail, hospitality, business administration, and conservation and land management. TITEB also assists employers with recruitment, job placement and retention. They also have cultural awareness training for businesses and organisations that work with the Tiwi people.

2. Multicultural Youth NT (MYNT)
MYNT offers support and services to culturally and linguistically diverse young people aged 12 to 25 years old. MYNT’s objectives are to provide a safe space for young people to engage in a range of recreational activities, develop life skills, and participate in cultural events and celebrations. MYNT also supports young people with education, training and employment pathways.

3. Tiwi Health Promotion and Strategy Team (H-PST)
The Tiwi H-PST is a program run by the Northern Territory Department of Health. They provide health promotion initiatives to communities throughout the Tiwi Islands. The team offers a wide range of health programs, including nutrition, physical activity, mental health, chronic disease prevention and management, sexual health, and tobacco and other substance misuse. The Tiwi H-PST works with Tiwi traditions and cultural practices to promote healthy behaviours and reduce the prevalence of chronic diseases.

4. Tiwi Land Council (TLC)
The TLC is an organisation that works to protect the rights and cultural heritage of the Tiwi people. Their main focus is on land management, economic development, cultural heritage protection, environmental management and support for the Tiwi people’s socioeconomic wellbeing. The TLC is responsible for managing the two Indigenous-owned and operated land trusts, the Tiwi Land Trust and the Perrederr and Tiwi Islands Land Trust.

5. Tiwi Islands Women's Centre (TIWC)
The TIWC is an organisation that provides a range of services to women and children in the Tiwi Islands. These services include childcare, family support, and language and culture programs. The TIWC also operates a retail arm that sells Tiwi artworks, textiles, and other craft items produced by women in the community. The TIWC provides valuable training and employment opportunities for Tiwi women, enabling them to develop their skills and generate income for their families.

6. Tiwi Aboriginal Corporation (TAC)
The TAC is an independent and self-governing Aboriginal Corporation that provides services and support to the Tiwi people. The TAC operates several businesses, including the Tiwi Islands Training and Employment Board and the Tiwi Islands Regional Council. The TAC also supports Tiwi people to start and grow their own businesses and offers business development services.
